All you need to know about Finnish nature under one website
Nationalparks.fi portal combines almost everything that needs to be known about Finnish nature and its hobby and outdoor activities under one site. The portal is provided by Parks & Wildlife Finland, which is a unit of Metsähallitus. Outdoors.fi covers approximately 12 000 pages including information for example on the Finnish natural attractions, national parks, as well as hiking and wilderness destinations. The portal has been implemented with Liferay technology, which makes it easier for the users to search for outdoor events and more advanced route options.
"The project began during autumn 2013 with project planning, which was carried out in a cooperation with Metsähallitus and Valamis. Special attention was paid to the usability of the portal. Furthermore, together with the visual designing also technical and functional designing was carried out. After that the implementation of the project began. The existing content was transferred from previous to the new Liferay environment by Sharepoint – Liferay migration tool", tells the Project Manager Tuomas Kokkonen from Valamis.
The web portal has also been designed to serve the mobile users. Thus, all the needed information can be browsed via mobile phones even when heading into the wilderness. Furthermore, the web portal serves both the beginners as well as the more experienced outdoor lovers.
"The project proceeded according to the planned schedule. Also, Liferay has turned out to be user friendly and easy for the page updaters to use", summarizes the Editor-in-Chief of the Outdoors.fi service of Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife Finland Katariina Hopponen.
We want to thank Metsähallitus for a successful cooperation during the project. Hopefully, the fresh site will inspire people to utilize the various services offered by Metsähallitus.
Enjoyable moments in nature!
